Hello, all! I took a month-long hiatus from this blog because I have truly been all over the place, but I am excited to fill everyone in on what has been going on in my life over the past month and a half. Yes, this blog isn't exactly about sports takes or athletes, but it will certainly contain some sporty sentiments!
Started interning with the National Sports Media Association
I started my internship with NSMA on May 11th, about 5 days after I finished up my first year in graduate school (sad face... I miss my cohort!). NSMA, short for National Sports Media Association, is a non-profit organization," which seeks to develop educational opportunities for those who are interested in pursuing a career in sports media, through networking, interning, mentoring, and scholarship programs." Working for the man, myth, and legend Mr. Dave Goren has been nothing short of a wonderful and impeccable learning experience. Dave was in the sports broadcasting industry for over 20 years, so learning from him has been extremely beneficial for my knowledge of broadcasting, but also the sports media industry as a whole. He has been the Executive Director of NSMA for the past 12 years and is really great at what he does.

The boss, DAVE GOREN!
Here's the kicker, though. Next weekend, NSMA is holding its 62nd Annual Awards Weekend (which is essentially what I have been working on in the office for the past month and a half). Essentially, the top sportscasters and sportswriters in each state are coming to my hometown, Winston-Salem, NC, to receive their awards for sportscasters/writers of the year. Some of the most notable figures in sports media will be in attendance, such as Jayne Kennedy, Curry Kirkpatrick, Sean Wickersham... just to name a few. And of course, I can't leave out the UNC legend who has made multiple appearances in my blog... the one and only Coach Hubert Davis!
And, finally... guess who else is coming this year... Charles. Barkley. Yes, you heard that right. CHARLES BARKLEY. I am ecstatic!
Oh, and if you're interested in meeting the top sports media professionals next weekend (June 25th- 27th), here's the link to buy tickets! :)
2. PGA Championship
Okay, so this one really blew my mind. On May 14th I flew to Tulsa, OK to volunteer as a corporate hospitality intern for the PGA Championship. Disclaimer: I am not a golf guru. However, after 10 days at the PGA Championship, I now consider myself a golf girl (take that as you wish, I'm still figuring out all the rules). When I tell you that Tiger Woods was 10 feet away from me more than 4 times, I am not lying. It was one of the coolest, most gratifying experiences I have ever been a part of. My favorite part of the entire week was being able to sit on 18 fairway in a circle with all 32 interns after Justin Thomas had JUST been awarded his PGA Championship trophy about 300 feet away on the green. We just sat there in awe of the Southern Hills course, taking it all in, and saying our final goodbyes. Hands down the coolest people I've ever worked with and I am literally smiling sitting here writing about it. If any of the PGA interns are reading this... I MISS YOU!!

The interns, village managers, and supervisors!
3. Start blogging again!
I know the NBA Finals are currently taking place and I have loved watching every second of it. I wish I would have blogged earlier about games and my own takes, but there is more soon to come.
Sorry if I am boring anyone with the life update. The main purpose of this blog was to tell those who read that I am BACK in action and ready to start blogging about the world of sports again. I am SO excited to be back on the blog. You'll be hearing from me soon!
